Yelle was the first current French artist I became familiar with four years ago. A friend introduced her to me, and we had fun delightfully picking through the raunchy lyrics for Je veux te voir. A lot can go wrong with an electro-pop artist, but surprisingly there are few missteps here. It’s engaging and interesting, if sounding a bit dated. It’s difficult to hold up a full-length album when there’s not much more to the music than a synth and a drum machine, and it stumbles on a few tracks, but the sheer catchiness and wordplay of Je veux te voir and a few others is enough for me! I’d still cut half the songs and make it an EP though.
